This can be difficult to remember to do especially if you are blogging quickly. But sit down and really take the time to focus on the keywords you can use for alt text. It doesn’t always have to be related to the image (although this helps). Many times I alt text the images on my blog with keywords I know my audience will be looking for like “vintage fashion blog” for example. Many people are now using Google images to find the things they are looking for and a lot of my traffic comes directly from Google images.
Every blog has keywords that are relevant to the intended audience. My personal blog is focused on vintage fashion and style so these are my basic keywords. You can even use Google’s free keyword tool to generate some ideas if you are getting stuck. Use keywords in alt text for images, blog post titles, the first paragraph of the post (with inbound links) and labels (Blogger) and tags (WordPress) for your blog post.
The more you blog the better chances you have of search engines picking up on your posts. I find I get a lot more traffic if I blog every day as opposed to blogging a few times a week. Blogging regularly also allows you to increase your blog’s ranking on search engines and to use those keywords more effectively throughout different posts.
Every post you write should contain at least one inbound link to a relevant post. This not only increases the chances of people sticking around to read another article on your blog it is also important for SEO. Try to limit the outbound links you have on your blog homepage and in your blog posts. Also remember the more inbound links to your blog the better so advertise your blog on similar sites and ask for link backs where you can.
